E-Cabs: Taxis in Japan to go electric in 2010

Japan will have the world’s first electric taxi pilot program, beginning January 2010. The e-cabs will use “swappable” batteries that can be replaced in about the same it takes to fill a gas tank. Better Place, a global provider of electric vehicle services, has developed technology that will allow drivers to charge or change electric car batteries at a network of swapping stations - the first of these battery-changing stations was successfully launched in Yokohama earlier this year (see video below). Researchers of this pilot program hope to gather data on the batteries’ driving range, as well as its durability in urban settings.

Interesting. I’ll be looking forward to seeing that should I ever get a chance to get to Japan. I’d really like for it to also be implemented here in the States, but we’re too busy sucking the minerals out of the Earth. Haha. Hopefully we haven’t ruined too much of our natural resources already. Very interesting article though. Thank you.
Hi,
Has anybody used this cab service in Mumbai?
I am trying to book a cab between Mumbai to Shirdi and back and these are the only people who have come back to me with a sensible price.
Any comments / reviews of these guys would be highly appreciated.
Cheers
