Japan Takes First Place in Cosplay Competition

Japan took first place in the Cosplay Championship held in the city of Nagoya on August 2, which was part of the World Cosplay Summit 2009. It seems like an obvious win - since they are the originators of the cosplay culture - but surprisingly, it’s actually their first time since the event started back in 2003.

Amongst 30 cosplay fanatics from 15 different countries, the Japanese stood out with their samurai warrior costumes from the video game series “Sengoku Basara” and their impressive swordfight performance. The runner up was the Spanish team, dressed as characters from the “Candy Candy” series.

Teams were given three minutes to convince the judges their expression, creativity and entertainment-value stays true and just as exciting as the original anime, movie, video game story.
