Last Friday, the cast and crew of Twilight enjoyed a sushi party at Miku Restaurant after a week of pre-production for ‘Eclipse’. Most sushi connoisseurs in the city were probably wondering why they weren’t at Tojo’s, Vancouver’s most famed, repeat winner of the ‘Best Fine Dining Japanese’ award by the local Vancouver Magazine. But for those who have already tried this new gem in the city’s downtown, the latest Hollywood vampire invasion shouldn’t’ come to them as a bloody surprise.

Specializing in fusion-style Aburi (or seared) sushi, Miku Restaurant is introducing an entirely new genre of Japanese cuisine to Canadians. Using high-quality fish, and creating innovative sushi sauces and garnishes with non-typical ingredients like olive oil, balsamic vinegar, Korean chili paste, sea salt, and even jalapeno, they are redefining the very art of sushi.
Though Miku Restaurant is still a new kid on the block, debuting in Vancouver in fall 2008, the owner of the restaurant, Seigo Nakamura, is anything but new to the restaurant industry.

In 2002, he took over Tora Corporation, a family owned restaurant group that was established in 1955 in Miyazaki Japan - Seigo is the fourth generation in the family restaurant lineage. Under his direction, he decided to take Tora Corporation across borders and Miku Restaurant is his first international venture. . . but he doesn’t plan on stopping there. I’ve talked to this guy before and he’s got big dreams of expanding in the U.S. too. . . could he be the next NOBU?
So what did Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart eat at Miku?
Though it’s yet to be confirmed with restaurant management, two items they likely served are their most extravagant Miku Roll, which includes Salmon, Cucumber, Sea Urchin, Crab Mayonnaise and Golden Caviar, as well as the Washugyu (American Kobe Beef) Carpaccio with Avocado Sauce.

Other Miku Facts:
- Miku Restaurant is the first Oceanwise (a recognized sustainable seafood establishment by the Vancouver Aquarium) Japanese restaurant in Vancouver.
- A member of their management team was the former Bar Manager at NOBU Restaurant in Tokyo
- Another celebrity siting in a week - a band member of ‘Kings of Leon’ has also been spotted indulging at Miku
- They have a promo vid that’s kinda entertaining. . .it looks like a movie trailer. . . must’ve been fun shooting it!

I had never had aburi sushi before I went to this restaurant and it friggin blew my mind, so I can understand completely why it would be the new celebrity sushi hotspot on the west coast
